The UFC White House line-up has been announced, and while it didn’t fulfill many’s wildest dreams it did throw down championship fights involving Ilia Topuria and Alex Pereira, two of the UFC’s biggest stars. And if you’d like to see those stars compete in Washington, D.C. on June 14th, you can do it for free — on a screen from a block away.
The Freedom 250 card is set to take place on the White House’s South Lawn in front of a very select group of V.I.P.s. Given the state of the world today, security
checks are going to be wild, so just wipe the idea of actually making it within range of the White House show to actually see the fights with your own eyes.
Fortunately, UFC CEO Dana White has a plan to bring the fight to fans via giant screens in The Ellipse, also known as President’s Park South. During a big announcement laying out the remaining fight cards between now and mid-June, White explained how getting into The Ellipse will work.
“I don’t know how many UFC fans have actually been to D.C., but it’s a great city,” White said. “And we’re gonna have all kinds of activations going on that week. I mean, the press conference is gonna be at the Lincoln Memorial. And the way that the White House is laid out, you got the White House, you got the South Lawn, and then there’s a road, and then the Ellipse is a park that’s right there.”
“We’re gonna be ticketing 85,000 people in the Ellipse, and the tickets are free,” he added. “And we’ll announce how we’re gonna be giving them away soon, but you should plan on going to Washington DC for this event. There’s gonna be all kinds of activations in the Ellipse. There’s gonna be music. Bands are gonna be playing, and you can actually sit in the park and watch the fight on the screens.
“You’ll actually see the whole setup. It’s it’s right there. It will be a very unique, cool experience for fight fans. And, like I always say, this is like a one of one. And for those of you that have never been to Washington, D.C., it’s a great city with tons of stuff to do.”
Free sounds like a pretty good price point. Let’s just hope the UFC doesn’t cheap out on porta-potties like they allegedly cheaped out on paying some of their biggest fighters for this one of one event.
