Welcome back to the transfer portal team of the week! This is our first true weekly edition of the basketball season, with the top 15 transfers of the week being honored.
The format will be a little different than the football counterpart, with only one player being in the spotlight each week. The full “Team of the Week” will feature the top three performing transfers at all five positions. Repeats are absolutely allowed for the full lineup, but the spotlight will be on a new player in each edition.
1/7-1/13 Spotlight: SR SG Corey Camper Jr.
A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Corey Camper Jr. flew under the radar out of high school, leading him to begin his collegiate career at Tyler Junior College in Texas. Across two seasons there, he started every game and averaged nearly 20 points per game as a sophomore, catching the attention of another Texas school in UTEP. Joining the Miners ahead of the 2023-2024 season, Camper filled the role of a sharp-shooting wing, putting up 8.4 points as a junior and 10.6 points as a senior. With one year of eligibility to spare, he decided to enter the transfer portal to find a school where he could be the number one option offensively. Camper found that in Reno, as he committed to Steve Alford and Nevada.
The 6 foot 5 shooting guard has been electric for the Wolf Pack so far, dropping 15 points per game with career best shooting percentages across the board. He had already broken the 20 point threshold four times this year, but his best performance came this past week against Wyoming. Camper dominated the Cowboys, torching them for a career high 31 points at a 77% clip, along with 7 rebounds, which tied his career high. With fellow transfers Tayshawn Comer and Elijah Price also excelling lately, Nevada is one of the hottest teams in the Mountain West. CCJ is well on his way to his first career all-conference nod, and no doubt is hoping to reaching the Big Dance for the first time as well.
