Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops ended all speculation Monday night during his weekly radio show, confirming that redshirt freshman quarterback Cutter Boley is committed to staying on the roster next season, despite swirling rumors that he could enter the transfer portal.
“We have a good nucleus of guys, and it’s certainly important to get that QB,” said Stoops. “It’s great to have a young QB. Cutter’s been nothing but all in and loving Kentucky. He wants to be here, and we just have to make
sure we build a good team around him.”
Boley, once one of Kentucky’s highest-rated in-state recruits in program history, has had anything but a quiet first two years in Lexington. Last season, he sat behind Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff, but still saw valuable snaps throughout the year, even earning a start against Louisville.
This fall, Boley again opened as the backup, this time behind seventh-year veteran Zach Calzada, but everything changed in Week 2 when Calzada went down in the fourth quarter against Ole Miss. Boley took over and has started every game since, leading Kentucky to a 4–5 record as the starter, including a 2–5 mark in SEC play.
Despite the growing pains, Boley’s production has steadily climbed. His two-year passing totals include:
- 211/328 (64.3%)
- 2,398 yards (7.3 YPA)
- 17 touchdowns, 14 interceptions
- He has also added 71 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.
Stoops praised Boley’s toughness, development, and leadership, noting that the program views him as the future of the quarterback room.
For a Kentucky fan base hungry for stability and direction, Monday’s confirmation brings clarity and something to build around heading into 2026.
