Kentucky Basketball just scored a massive recruiting win in the high school ranks, as 5-star wing Ryan Hampton committed to the Wildcats on Sunday. On3’s Joe Tipton broke the news first.
Hampton made his commitment while taking an official visit to Kentucky over the weekend. Even with the trip, no one thought Hampton was on commitment watch, but Mark Pope and Co. were able to seal the deal.
New asssistant coach Mo Williams was the lead recruiter for Kentucky. Safe to say his addition to the Kentucky staff
has proved to be a massive one.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Texas native is currently ranked as high as No. 6 overall in the 2027 class, making him the highest-ranked high school commitment in the Pope era. This comes just six days after Kentucky landed its highest-ranked transfer pledge under Pope in Iowa State sharpshooter Milan Momcilovic.
Safe to say it’s been a massive week for Kentucky Basketball under Mark Pope.
Ryan is the brother of former Kentucky recruit R.J. Hampton, a 5-star recruit in the class of 2019 who ended up playing in Australia before being selected the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
While there was talk that Hampton could reclassify into 2026, he recently said he’s staying in 2027.
