The Michigan’s Wolverines have reportedly added a tough non-conference opponent to their schedule for the next two seasons. As first reported by Jon Rothstein, Michigan is finalizing an agreement to start a home-and-home series with Marquette.
Michigan will host Marquette next season before traveling
to Milwaukee during the 2027-28 season.
Marquette has been one of the most prominent programs in the Big East since Shaka Smart took over the program in 2021. However, the Golden Eagles have taken a bit of a nosedive this season, entering the Big East Tournament with a 12-19 overall record. Regardless of the team’s performance this year, Marquette should be a good test for a Michigan team that will likely look plenty different on paper heading into next season.
In their history, Michigan and Marquette have played each other five times, with the Wolverines holding a 4-1 edge in the series. Michigan won the most recent matchup between the teams during the 2016 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden by a final score of 79-61.
As it currently stands, no other non-conference opponents have been announced for next season. But given how head coach Dusty May has scheduled challenging opponents in the out-of-conference portion of the schedule his first two seasons in Ann Arbor, don’t be surprised to see more be added this spring and summer.
