The Buffalo Bills have won five of their first six games and sit in sole possession of first place in the AFC East. The team is firmly entrenched in the No. 2 seed in the AFC, trailing only the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in the conference.
But while the Bills are 5-1, all but one of their games has been of the one-score variety, mostly because their defense ranks towards the bottom in most of the major categories. And the defense is prone to allowing teams to hang around—the Bills are allowing 1.5
touchdowns per fourth quarter this year, the worst rate for any defense in any season going back to at least the 1977 campaign.
Buffalo has needed Josh Allen and the offense to produce at a prolific rate. The offense is obliging, as the Bills lead the NFL in scoring offense (32.8 points per game) to make up for a defense that ranks 28th in points allowed and 31st in yards and first downs allowed.
