Over the course of their three game losing streak, the Pittsburgh Penguins have registered just two goals as the offense has suddenly gone dry. While the goaltending and defense have been stellar over the same stretch, it’s going to be hard to win any games when the goal scoring completely evaporates the way it has for the Penguins. Perhaps a rivalry matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers will be enough to jump start the scoring and that’s what is on tap this evening at PPG Paints Arena.
Puck drop is
scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Pens Points…
After a few rough starts, goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov bounced back last week with a solid performance for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, allowing only one goal in a 5-1 victory. The game cannot be said for his goalie partner Joel Blomqvist was lit up for five goals the following night. [Pensburgh]
When the offseason does arrive for the Penguins this year, Kyle Dubas and his staff will be looking at a roster with a lot of spots to fill but a lot of money to spend. There are some upcoming free agents they will need to decide on, but other than that, the 2026-27 squad will look very different. [Pensburgh]
Tristan Broz is headed back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after a short recall to the Penguins. Broz was recalled earlier this week along with Ryan Graves but did not play in the game against the Lightning. [Trib Live]
Earlier this week, the Penguins announced the extension of Blake Lizotte as the sides agreed on a new three-year deal for the depth forward. It was welcome news for the fan base as Lizotte has proven his value and the engine of a super effective fourth line. [Penguins]
Ruther McGroarty returned to Penguins practice on Monday a week after being placed on inured reserve with a concussion. He was in a no contact jersey for the duration of his time on the ice and Dan Muse reiterated that they are taking it one day at a time him his recovery. [The Hockey News]
NHL News and Notes…
Brayden Point is listed as week-to-week for the Tampa Bay Lightning, leaving his Olympic status in doubt just three weeks out from the tournament. If Point cannot travel to Milan, Canada will have to dip into its deep forward pool to find his replacement. [Bleacher Report]
It sounds like the Vancouver Canucks are shifting into rebuild mode which means it could be time for a fire sale in the coming weeks. One of the biggest names who could be on the move is forward Elias Pettersson who will certainly garner most of the trade rumors. [TSN]
