If you check the Big 10 conference standings today, you will be treated to a sight very rarely witnessed:
Yep, that is your Nebraska Cornhuskers sitting atop the B1G standings and there they shall remain until at least early Saturday afternoon following their tilt with he storied Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers are a 70% favorite according to ESPN’s matchup predictor and currently own a 10-0 record on their home floor where the game will be played.
However, the surprising Cornhuskers are 15-0 and own
the nation’s longest winning streak at 19 thanks to their 4-game run to glory in the esteemed College Basketball Crown tournament. Much like their tilts against Illinois, Michigan State and Ohio State, few believe in them. And, of course, the streak has to end sometime.
But do you want to bet against the streak and these guys?
OK, enough rambling, here are your survey results:
- Corn Nation seems to be pretty measured here. Only 16% went for the extreme with 12% thinking the Huskers will win 12 or more of the remaining 16 games and 4% saying it will come crashing down to the tune of 5 or fewer wins the rest of the way.
- 40% believe they will settle in winning 6-8 of the remaining 16 which should (?) be enough earn a tournament bid and go after the elephant in Nebraska basketball’s room.
- And, finally, 44% see Nebrasketball notching 13-15 total conference wins which should firmly secure the Big Dance ticket and a final record around 25-6 which would set them right alongside the 1991 squad in the argument for who is the Huskers Hoops GOAT.
- No drawn out explanations needed here.
