With the Eagles and Titans tied at 17 points each with under two minutes left to play, Jalen Carter stepped up on special teams, like he’s done so many times in the past, to try and block the field goal kick. This time, however, instead of getting a hand on the ball, Carter ended up injured and holding his calf. He wasn’t able to put weight on his left leg as he tried to get off the field, but it turns out, it was just cramping.
Anything more than a cramp would have been bad news for any number of reasons, including the fact that he’s one of the league’s top defenders, that he’s already been dealing with an injury to his right wrist from Week 1, and he’s incredibly valuable on special teams.
Just months after signing a new contract extension making him the highest paid defensive tackle in the league, Carter has dealt with several different injuries, but thankfully this didn’t turn out to be anything else he has to work through. He spent the offseason recovering from procedures on both shoulders, and came back to work in good condition and better shape than last year.
The Eagles defense struggled against the Titans, which means that the group definitely will need Carter’s help next week against the Bears — whether or not Caleb Williams is able to play.
