The 3-1 Bears have been linked to the trade market, with fans and pundits speculating that they might make a move to solidify a defense that is showing what some might call a surprising ability to shut down offenses. However, not all moves are created equal. In our last installment, we asked what trade we would like Ryan Poles to pursue. Now, we’re looking at the other side of the equation and asking what trade targets we hope Chicago stays away from.
What “reasonable target” do you hope Chicago doesn’t
pursue in the trade market?
Lester Wiltfong: As much as I’d be excited by it, I don’t think targeting a high-priced player like Vita Vea or Maxx Crosby makes sense for the Bears. Besides the cap hit, I don’t want to see them unload day one and two picks.
Bryan Orenchuk: I hope they do not pursue another WR, even though they may come super cheap. Marvin Harrison Jr., Brian Thomas Jr., and Jerry Jeudy are all quality players in their own right, but we don’t need their services on this roster.
Erik Duerrwaechter: There’s been some buzz around the Chargers being sellers at the deadline. A player who wouldn’t cost much, but wouldn’t be a great fit for the Bears, is Teair Tart. The 5-tech DE is an O-K run stuffer who doesn’t add too much into the pass rush. It would make me ask the question, “why trade Gervon Dexter Sr away if this is your replacement plan?”
Donald Gooch: Daron Payne’s name has been bandied about and, sure, he might help our run defense a bit up the middle. But Payne is a shadow of himself, and I’d rather not give up draft capital for a player who doesn’t significantly change our defensive line’s profile.
Mongo Peanut: Maxx Crosby. I understand the appeal given his consistent dominance, but his failed physical and his consistent media presence give me concern. I think he likely fetches a similar or higher price than Simmons given the Raiders are still in the hunt.
Josh Sunderbruch: Anyone who costs a first-round pick or more is out of the question for me. I would hesitate to move for Simmons unless the Titans settle for a 2nd-rounder or a package of offsetting picks.
So what about you? Let us know below who you hope the Bears stay away from in the trade market. Do you want them to avoid trades entirely?
