The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense is one of the best in the NFL – I bet you didn’t have that on your bingo card. They currently rank seventh in the NFL in EPA per play, tied with the Detroit Lions in that regard,
and they are tied with the Rams in 11th in points per game (25.0).
The resurrection of the offense is in large part due to Arthur Smith and his scheme, but also the tremendous play of Aaron Rodgers. When the clock hit triple-zeroes at the end of the Steelers’ loss to the Bengals, Rodgers was leading the NFL in touchdown passes. Through seven weeks, he is 10th in EPA per play and eighth in completion percentage over expected.
While Rodgers strongly hinted that 2025 would be his final year, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Steelers would like him to return in 2026.
“The Steelers will scour the draft market for the QB of the future, for sure,” Fowler writes. “They are already doing so. But if you ask people with the team whether they’d entertain the notion of Rodgers in the black-and-gold in 2026, the answer would be a resounding yes. He has maintained his elite ability to throw the football.”
If Rodgers maintains this level of play throughout the entirety of 2025, perhaps he reconsiders retirement and returns for an additional year with the Steelers.
