“The Highlight” crossed a line.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion Ilia Topuria collides with interim 155-pound champion Justin Gaethje to unify the division title at UFC Freedom 250 this weekend (Sun., June 14, 2026) in front of the White House on the South Lawn in Washington, D.C., to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary — and now Topuria is pissed.
Last week, Gaethje took a personal shot at Topuria and his divorce, which kept him out of action for the first half of the year
and, by Topuria’s own admission, took a lot of time and energy away from his fighting career.
Gaethje called Topuria an “annoying little bastard” and then referenced Topuria’s ex-wife, saying, “I would leave him. No way I would put up with his shit.”
Well, it turns out that was a mistake — a big one — because Topuria is not pleased with Gaethje.
“Take this, Justin,” Topuria said on the UFC Freedom 250 Countdown while flipping Gaethje off. “Actually, I thought he was a great guy. But since he crossed the personal line, he’s not going to have my respect; he’s not going to have my team’s respect.”
“All I’m going to need is two minutes in the Octagon with you, and I’m going to put you to sleep in front of your whole family, your country, in front of everyone,” Topuria continued.
Today (Mon., June 8, 2026), Topuria added more on social media.
“Justin crossed a line,” Topuria wrote.
“What happened between my ex-wife and me is our business. We may no longer be together, but she is the mother of my daughter.
To everyone insulting her or speaking about things they know nothing about: show some respect.”
You don’t have to respect our relationship. But respecting someone’s mother should be one of the most basic codes in life.
Be better.”
For most of Topuria’s UFC run, he has talked plenty of trash, but he has also shown at least some level of respect for his opponents. This one feels different.
Gaethje didn’t just poke the bear — he made it personal. And now, “El Matador” sounds like he is walking into the biggest fight of his career with real anger behind him.
Will that make Topuria more emotional on fight night? Or will he be the same cold-blooded killer he has been every time he steps into the cage?
Oddsmakers are expecting the latter. Topuria is currently a massive 7-to-1 favorite, with the under 1.5 rounds sitting at -115, meaning the books are expecting “El Matador” to run right through Gaethje on the South Lawn.
