Bayern Munich’s search for defensive depth has sparked plenty of transfer speculation this summer, and former Bayern defender Valérien Ismaël believes he knows exactly who the club should target. Ismaël made a strong case for Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro, arguing that the Spanish international possesses all the qualities needed to thrive under Vincent Kompany.
In case you missed it, we covered the story here, but if you needed a refresher this is what Ismaël had to say.
“Pedro Porro has
shown that he’s an outstanding defender. He would be a fantastic addition to FC Bayern. Full-backs of this caliber are always hard to find. Porro is tenacious and strong in defensive duels, quick, and always capable of producing a dangerous attacking moment. He simply has the complete package. I can absolutely see him thriving in Vincent Kompany’s team – he would be a perfect fit there,” Ismaël told Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It is easy to understand why Ismaël is so enthusiastic about the 26-year-old. Porro has developed into one of Europe’s most complete full-backs, combining defensive intensity with the ability to influence matches in the final third. His pace, crossing ability, and willingness to push forward would fit naturally into Kompany’s tactical philosophy, where full-backs are expected to provide width while remaining disciplined defensively.
Whether Bayern Munich actually needs another right-back is another discussion. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić both proved to be reliable options last season, while Sacha Boey remains part of the squad (for now). The club has also strengthened its defensive depth with the signing of Nathaniel Brown, giving Kompany additional flexibility across the back line.
Still, players with Porro’s profile do not become available often. His experience at the highest level and ability to contribute on both ends of the pitch would make him an attractive option for almost any top European club. Even if a move never materializes, Ismaël’s endorsement reflects the type of player Bayern Munich continues to value: technically gifted, tactically intelligent, and capable of making an impact in every phase of the game.
Should Bayern Munich reconsider its “no more signings” stance and explore what it would take to get Porro?
