Welcome to the bye week for the Cleveland Browns! This is one of those good weekend/bad weekend deals, where the good (the Browns can’t lose) is balanced out by the bad (there is no Browns game this week).
There is still a lot going on, of course, especially with the NFL trade deadline looming on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Will a longtime Browns player (or players) be elsewhere after the bell tolls on Tuesday? Will there be any new faces when the Browns open practice for their Week 10 game against the New York Jets? Only time will tell!
Until then, let’s check out the latest news and notes about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL in today’s edition of the Saturday Dawg Chow.
Dawgs By Nature:
- Browns on the Bye: Week 9 NFL predictions (Chris Pokorny) – The Cleveland Browns are on the bye with a 2-6 record. For as frustrating and bad as this football team has been, it’s also unbelievable how two moments could have drastically shifted the mood of the season.
- Travis Hunter’s injury could see Jaguars’ NFL draft pick to Browns soar (Matthew Wilson) – It was just announced that Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter, whom the Browns basically traded to Jacksonville, is being placed on IR due to a knee injury that he suffered in practice yesterday. He’ll be out at least four games, with the potential to miss even more depending on the severity and recovery process.
- Browns roster: Former QB could be answer at NFL trade deadline over Shedeur Sanders (Jared Mueller) – The Cleveland Browns have had Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel as starters since the offseason. Could the NFL trade deadline bring new/old starter to town?
- Browns new dome: Potential PSL, ticket details and costs bound to rile up fans (Barry Shuck) – This ain’t going to be cheap! Tickets to see the Cleveland Browns play in their new stadium are likely to come at a big cost to fans.
- 3 worst Browns’ NFL draft Picks in the 21st Century (Abby Mueller) – There is a long list of disappointing NFL draft picks in Cleveland Browns history, but which ones stand out?
- Browns NFL trade deadline: Top 10 roster extension priorities (Matthew Wilson) – Breaking down the top 10 players that Cleveland should extend before the 2025 league year ends.
- Browns Myles Garrett, Eagles trade rumor makes too much sense for almost everyone (Jared Mueller) – The Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles making a huge deal for Myles Garrett, as the NFL trade deadline rumor goes, makes sense, but not for everyone.
- Browns NFL trade deadline rumor: Update on David Njoku being dealt (Jared Mueller) – The Cleveland Browns are the center of the NFL trade deadline rumors, with TE David Njoku one of the names that keep popping up.
Cleveland Browns:
- 9 key individuals for Browns’ final 9 games, from Myles Garrett to Jimmy Haslam (Beacon Journal) – To say it hasn’t gone well for the Cleveland Browns is like saying the Titanic only had a little scratch on its side. Nine games remain to be played after the bye, starting with a Nov. 9 game at the New York Jets. In honor of those final nine games, here are nine individuals who will play prominent roles over the final nine weeks of the season.
- When the going gets tough, ownership … vanishes (Browns Zone) – One of the many admirable traits of Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti and general manager Mike Chernoff is that when the going gets tough, they don’t disappear. Contrast that with one of Browns ownership’s unfortunate traits, which is this: When the going gets tough, they buy a piece of the Milwaukee Bucks.
- How Myles Garrett climbed back into the race for Defensive Player of the Year, the sack title, and one more coveted milestone (cleveland.com) – Myles Garrett would’ve gladly given back his record-setting 5.0 sacks last week in New England for a Browns victory, but they just might prove to be career-altering when all is said and done.
- Browns’ QB future, and how Shedeur Sanders factors into it (ESPN) – Here’s what you need to know about the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation with nine regular-season games to go.
NFL:
- NFL fines Ravens $100K for incorrectly listing Lamar Jackson on Week 8 injury report (NFL.com) – The NFL fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for violating its Injury Report Policy by incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation status on Friday, Oct. 24, the league announced. The Ravens accepted the fine and will not appeal.
- Miami Dolphins and general manager Chris Grier mutually agree to part ways (Miami Herald) – Chris Grier will no longer be the general manager of the Miami Dolphins, per multiple reports.
- Jordan Love is making the leap and putting himself in MVP contention (The Ringer) – The third-year Green Bay Packers starter is finally starting to make good on a lot of his potential. And in doing so, he’s looking like one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 2025 NFL trade deadline: Which teams should add, subtract? (ESPN) – Should your favorite team be trying to add veterans on deadline day? Should it be moving on from players to acquire draft picks that can help it in the future? Or should it be staying put with what it has, neither dealing for players nor dealing them? Let’s start with the teams that should be most active in looking to add players who can help their chances of winning in 2025.
- Why Pittsburgh’s high-priced defense is struggling (The Athletic) – The Pittsburgh Steelers have been synonymous with great defense since the 1970s, but that’s not the case with the current edition.
