The Indianapolis Colts published a quick clip of Monday’s OTA practice, which wasn’t open to the local media, and one thing to note is that starting quarterback Daniel Jones is already out there throwing in individual drills:
Jones, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles during Week 14 late last season, is still rehabbing from that significant lower leg injury. However, the hope from both him, his representation during prior contract negotiations, and the Colts is that he’d be ready for training camp’s kickoff in mid-July of this upcoming summer.
It looks like that optimism could be on track to realistically—and eventually, become a reality in about two months or so, given his current trajectory.
That being said, Jones is only throwing in individual drills right now, and the expectation seems to be that he won’t be participating in the 11-on-11 non-contact drills during OTAs over the next few weeks—as the Colts take caution and patience with their new ‘$100 million man’ (*factoring in contract incentives of course).
It appears as though Jones still has a bit to go in his ongoing recovery, but his progress is no doubt encouraging.
The Colts open the 2026 regular season on September 13th, hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The ultimate goal for the Colts and Jones will be ensuring that he’s fully ready to go and medically cleared for that Week 1 game.
