Will Wade and the LSU men’s basketball team have once again found themselves making headlines, but this time the Tigers have had another opponent announced for the upcoming fall slate. According to a report from The Advocate, the team is set to face Gonzaga University for the first time in school history on the hardwood.
LSU will travel to Spokane, Washington, ahead of the matchup with the Bulldogs scheduled for Saturday, November 14. Although Gonzaga typically hosts its basketball games at the McCarthey
Athletic Center, affectionately known as “The Kennel,” this nonconference game will instead be played at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, which has a higher capacity by roughly 4,000 people.
Gonzaga, formerly a member of the West Coast Conference, will join the revamped Pac-12 for the 2026-27 athletics year. The Bulldogs have been a consistent college basketball power regardless of the opponents who dare step in front of them, finishing last season with a 31-4 record. As a program, Gonzaga has produced seven NBA draft picks since 2020.
After already scheduling the Houston Cougars for a contest to be held in the Toyota Center, it is clear that Will Wade and co. have been intentional about getting the best of the best in front of the Tigers on the court in the head coach’s first season back with the school. As the saying goes, you’ve got to beat the best to be the best, and that is the long-term goal set by LSU for all of its teams. Regardless of who wears the purple and gold this year, fans will certainly get the chance to witness some entertaining basketball both on the road and inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
