What is the story about?

One of the great, pending mysteries of the upcoming NBA season was the fate of Golden State Warriors MVP Steph Curry. Entering the 2026-27 campaign at 38 years of age on an expiring deal, Curry was one of the big names in speculation for potential trades during the summer. The Warriors are not what they used to be in their championship heyday of the 2010’s. Would Curry and the Warriors part ways as he sought for one more championship run to end his career?

Apparently not, or at least not soon. This

evening Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Curry signed a two-year, $116 million extension to remain with the Warriors through 2029. The caveat: the second year of that extension, the 2028-29 season, includes a player option. But for now, it looks like the chances of Curry remaining with the Warriors for his entire career remain intact.

Golden State selected Curry with the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. He’s played 17 seasons with two MVP awards, 12 NBA All-Star nominations, and he’s been selected to All-NBA teams 11 times. Curry averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in in 30.9 minutes per game last season, appearing in 43 games. He shot 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from the three-point arc, where he’s widely regarded as the best shooter of all time.
