It’s Sunday, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! The Yankees made history this week, becoming the first team ever to overcome an 0-1 deficit in the Wild Card round to advance
to the ALDS; admittedly, this is only the fourth year of this model, but nonetheless, history is history, and now, the Yankees are up in Toronto for another AL East postseason matchup. How have they celebrated these accomplishments? Let’s get started!
Wild Card Hype
Following last Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees immediately turned their attention to their Wild Card matchup with the Boston Red Sox. Both players and those around the team took to social media to express their excitement for postseason baseball in the Bronx.
Meanwhile, the Yankees’ official social media accounts posted hype videos in preparation. The first of these, which focused on the theme of “Some things never change,” focused on the team’s big additions both last winter and at the trade deadline. In the process, the video editor threw some shade, first by highlighting Max Fried striking out Juan Soto while Ryan Ruocco’s voiceover said, “Change is sometimes needed,” which then immediately transformed into a clip of Cody Bellinger hitting a grand slam, then by showing Cam Schlittler striking out Cal Raleigh in his Major League debut.
Then, prior to the first game on Tuesday, both Dave Simms and Suzyn Waldman highlighted the excitement of postseason baseball — with Waldman giving us a behind-the-scenes look of the press room dessert table.
Back from the Brink
Following the Yankees’ painful loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday night, it felt almost inevitable that the season would end this week — after all, the Red Sox have regularly gotten the better of the Yankees in big spots in recent years, and no team had yet salvaged a Wild Card Series after dropping Game 1. And yet, that’s exactly what the Yankees did, and Thursday night, it was the Yankees who partied on the field and in the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.
Unsurprisingly, most of the attention focused on the star of the series, Game 3 starter Cam Schlittler, who absolutely confounded Boston hitters for eight shutout innings.
Former Yankee (and Red Sox) reliever Adam Ottavino posted a breakdown of Schlittler’s outing on his YouTube channel, then broke down the Wild Card round on the official MLB YouTube channel.
And, of course, the hero of the hour himself:
For Your Consideration
Amidst the postseason hype, the Yankees began an Oscar-style video series, with the tagline “You be the Judge,” advocating for their Captain’s case for his third career American League MVP (this is certainly why the hype video included a clip of Raleigh, his main opponent, striking out).
Looking Back on 2025
Since the local television networks do not broadcast postseason games, YES Network broadcaster took the time on the final day of the season to look back on his 34th season behind the microphone in the Bronx.
Congratulations, Tanaka!
Earlier this week, former Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka won his 200th career game as a professional pitcher. Congratulations, Tanaka!
Rest in Peace, Dick
Earlier this week, former Yankees scout Dick Groch passed away. Famous for being the scout who discovered Derek Jeter for the Yankees, Groch worked for the Expos, Yankees, and Brewers. Jeter took to his social media to express his condolences to Groch’s family.

Additionally, prior to Thursday night’s game, the Yankees held a moment of silence for him.
CC in September
As is his custom, CC Sabathia posted a photo dump of his very busy September, which included a trip to the Ryder Cup, a day at the US Open, and a performance of Hamilton on Broadway. Oh, and of course, some golfing of his own.
