The Indianapolis Colts found some much-needed fortune in London as they managed to beat the Washington Commanders and climb to 2-2. Yes, there was skill and preparation involved, but there was a lot of luck as well. Daniel Jones tested that luck throughout the game, but if the Colts are going to keep winning, they need to reserve some in the tank. The best way to do that is for Jones to stop turning the ball over.
Jones fumbled on the second play of the game in a highly unusual fashion. It wasn’t
as bizarre as the “butt fumble”, but it looked just as sloppy. The defender bull rushed Bernhard Raimann and had them both in Jones’ face, but to fumble the ball like that was simply odd. Just like against the Texans, he threw off his back foot under pressure and was intercepted. It was a dispiriting quarter and a half as the offense was dreadful.
Luckily, the Colts weathered the early storm. The defense held strong and kept the Commanders out of the endzone to limit the damage to six. Additionally, facing a third string quarterback didn’t hurt either. That isn’t always going to be the case, however. The better teams in this league will make the Colts pay for their errors. Jones has to be better. He has to protect the ball and play smarter. He cannot turn the ball over at this rate if the Colts hope to survive.
Daniel Jones has seven turnovers across four games with five in the last two. That looks like the second half of 2025 Jones, but the Colts can’t win with that version. An occasional turnover is understandable, but at least two of the fumbles and both of the interceptions were avoidable. Those must be cleaned up. Jones has to find a way to get a grip.
