Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has recently faced criticism with debates about his role as captain of the German national team. The player, however, has been backed by figures like Bayern’s coach Vincent Kompany and board member for sport Max Eberl, who have expressed their support for the midfielder.
Another football personality on the same boat seems to be Bayern and German national team legend Michael Ballack. In a recent interview for DAZN after Bayern (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the former
Bayern midfielder pushed back on the ongoing criticism towards Kimmich. “This is a bit too much for me. Kimmich is still an important part of the national team, he’s the captain,” declared Ballack.
Ballack made sure to emphasize that the reason for Kimmich was left out the second stretch of the latest international break was solely due to Germany’s coach Jürgen Klopp wanting to experiment with a large amount of players, insisting Kimmich’s spot in the German national team is safe. “This discussion really only exists because Jürgen Klopp tested many players, and others performed well. He will get through this discussion,” said Ballack.
The fact Kimmich was not considered for the second leg of Germany’s matches should not be taken as a hint that Kimmich’s spot in the squad is in danger, but as long as Klopp’s team does not get into gear, the criticism will keep coming.
