It’s the final game of the regular season and the Syracuse Orange (15-15, 6-11) will welcome the Pitt Panthers (11-19, 4-13) to the JMA Dome. The Senior Day tip is scheduled for 4:30 and will be broadcast on The CW. Here’s what we’re watching for in this one:
Kevin: A proper sendoff
It’s Senior Day and with the way things are, who knows if we’ll see anyone again in that script Syracuse in the Dome. Can this group find something deep down to put forth an effort to make it a positive evening? The last
couple of weeks have been up and down more than a Flint Hall resident taking 19 credits. Will the Orange dig down and avoid a sub.500 season?
Max: Convert the easy looks
Pitt’s defense has been absolutely horrendous in conference play, allowing a league-worst 55.9% effective field-goal percentage per KenPom. Syracuse took advantage of that in the first meeting between the two, converting 63.3% of its shots from the field with 32 points in the paint. We know there will be open looks once again against this Panthers defense, but it’s on the Orange to share the ball, find the open man and execute these opportunities.
Szuba: Starling’s play
It’s the last game in the dome for the hometown kid. Starling’s college career has been anything but easy. He’s fought through myriad injuries, transferred in to the program to play for Autry and stayed loyal through the highs and lows of that process. He could’ve transferred to a better basketball situation but chose to stick it out at Syracuse. In an up and down season, can Starling play well in his final home game and can his team send him out on the right note?
