Classes have started at Syracuse and the action has picked up among the Orange’s fall sports teams. Let’s recap the week that was for the Orange Olympic sports.
Field Hockey (3-1, 0-0)
The 9th-ranked Orange were at Rutgers for the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. Syracuse won Friday’s game over Ohio State by a 3-2 score.
On Sunday, the Orange took a 1-0 lead on this beauty of a goal from Taylor Bigbie.
Rutgers was able to tie the game and then win in penalty strokes to hand Syracuse their first loss of the season. The Orange will be back in action next week at Bucknell and will play their first home game on the new blue turf in two weeks.
Women’s Soccer (3-2-2, 0-0)
Another rough outing for the offense as the Orange lost 1-0 at Binghamton. Syracuse has only scored one goal in the last three games and needs to get things back on track when they travel to Boston College next weekend.
Volleyball (3-2, 0-0)
The Orange won all three matches at the Cornell Invitational defeating Howard, UAlbany and the host Big Red. Yuka Urano was named MVP while Charis Burge and Abby Nicholson made the All-Tournament Team.
Syracuse hosts Arkansas on Wednesday before heading to play Canisius on Sunday.
Men’s Soccer (3-2, 0-1)
The Orange defeated Iona 4-0 for a second consecutive shutout. Bryson Rodriguez had a goal and two assists. Then on Friday, Syracuse failed to convert a golden opportunity in the second half and ended up falling 1-0 to #18 Clemson in the ACC opener. The Tigers had a 19-6 shot advantage on the night.
Syracuse will host St. John’s on Wednesday and then head to Boston College next weekend.
