Turns out we’re not that bad in this transfer window business.
Only a year after joining Chelsea from Ipswich Town, 23-year-old striker Liam Delap left the club today on a permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest. He joins the Garibaldis on a five-year contract.
Delap came from Ipswich Town to Chelsea after we activated his release clause, reportedly set at £30m.
Unfortunately the high hopes set on the young English striker didn’t materialize as he failed to reproduce the same kind of form that got him 12 Premier League goals in his first full season at the top level.
He leaves Stamford Bridge on a £45m fee meaning a £15m profit if we ignore wages. But we can safely assume we got a nice turnover from this move as he most likely wasn’t getting anything north of £300,000 per week in wages.
It’s still unfortunate things didn’t turn out as expected. Perhaps in a club with not as many limelights directed at him his talents will shine once again.
