As you probably know, former Blue Devil Kon Knueppel has been lighting the NBA on fire since his rookie season started. He’s been way ahead of the normal rookie curve and has, among other things, been killing it from three point range. After Thursday’s game against the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr compared him to Chris Mullin which is actually a pretty great thought.
Knueppel came down in an awkward manner the other night and twisted his ankle. It looked like he would probably be out for a few
games anyway, but Knueppel is nothing if not durable. He sat out one game, and as we learned afterwards, it was the first game he missed.
Ever.
At any level.
We’ve gotten used to the savvy, the brilliant shooting and the idea that Charlotte will probably start to build around him now. The comparison to Mullin seems pretty apt. And while we’re thrilled with what Knueppel and his former Duke teammate have accomplished, you don’t want to get carried away with comparisons. Still, after you see this no-look pass that Knueppel pulled off against the Warriors, there are only three guys, maybe four, who come to mind. You can fill in that blank yourself, but no matter who you think of, you’re going to think: wow! Did he just do that?
By the way, Knueppel finished with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists.
