PAIN. Big pain. Well, WOOF. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not making this easy on anyone. In a wild game on Saturday night with the Irish making us all irate by losing a Big 12-esque game, we stand here confused and angry at the loss and an 0-2 start. Things look bleak. Are they actually? Or are these two losses by 4 total points to two top 10 teams and need to get right? We don’t really know, and the Irish still seemingly have an outside chance at the playoff if they can run the table to win
10 straight. Even then, nothing is guaranteed.
So, a game and start of season like that will lend itself to MANY emotions and reactions, and definitely some overreactions. Here are a few from Saturday night that I saw online.
Overreactions to ND vs. TAMU
This was in the first half of the game on Saturday. This overreaction comes with a caveat because the premise isn’t totally out of bounds here. I probably uttered something similar during the game. Chris Ash needs to get the defense back to the prowess it had RIGHT NOW. However, I need to see some more incompetence before the full calling of the job happens. His seat is INCREDIBLY hot right now, though.
Yes, this was BAD in a time when no one is even considering a missed PAT being a factor. I tried to pick one tweet to sum up the sentiment, but many are like this. Tyler Buchner is not the reason the Irish lost. He’s the cause of the game being over in regulation. The defense needed to stop a full-field drive with 2 minutes left. It didn’t.
We’re getting this thought again, and I don’t know why. Listen, I’m not really one to gatekeep fandom. It’s definitely a “if you’re not against us, you’re for us” type of thing. I’m glad if you’re an ND fan and you want the Irish to win, then I’m good with it. You don’t need to understand offensive schemes and the different types of defenses. But I’ve always been so tired of the take that you can just blame the QB or blame the name people know, especially when it just is objectively not true. CJ Carr is very, very good – you would think he is a seasoned college starter. His poise in the pocket, the way he commands an offense, and his throw are all awesome. He objectively has been very good. He helped lead to scoring 33 points (and then add on the 7 points on the blocked punt) – that should get you enough to win.
