Today is nomination day! After voting in the CPL, head to the comment section to nominate a new batch of prospects for Wednesday.
Well, nothing much of note is happening in the baseball world … right? So
we might as well chug along with the 2026 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List, which will see us rank the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization.
We’re still in the infancy stages of this year’s CPL, which means we’re still discussing the most exciting names in the system. And Friday’s chapter was no exception, as shortstop Jhonny Level was voted as the No. 3 prospect in the system, which is a rise of three spots from his placement at No. 6 a year ago.
Level, who was an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2024, had a sensational second pro season, and stateside debut. The switch-hitter opened the year in the Arizona Complex League, where he hit .288/.375/.493 for a .869 OPS and a 119 wRC+, while smashing nine home runs and stealing 17 bases in 58 games. He ended the year with Low-A San Jose, where he hit .236/.333/.339 for a .672 OPS and a 91 wRC+, with three home runs and four stolen bases in 31 games.
The tools are the real deal for Level, who won’t turn 19 until a few days after the 2026 season gets underway. He showed strong contact tools and a control of the zone, sporting a .269 average across the two levels, with a 12.3% walk rate and just a 17.2% strikeout rate. He flashed excellent power, especially from the right side of the plate — his .205 isolated slugging mark in the ACL ranked 14th out of 156 hitters (minimum: 100 plate appearances), while his .102 mark in the California League was the median mark, despite being more than three years younger than his peers at the level. He proved an instinctive baserunner capable of swiping some bags, and his defense proved to be some of the best in the system at shortstop, where he has a strong chance of being able to stick.
Level seems destined to populate the back end of some top 100 lists this offseason, and if he can build on his performance in the coming year, he could easily emerge as one of the top prospects in baseball. He figures to be the near-everyday shortstop in San Jose when the 2026 season begins.
Now let’s add to the list, and don’t forget that today is nomination day!
