Rawlings released their Gold Glove finalists for the 2025 season yesterday morning. The Cleveland Guardians saw four player nominated for Gold Gloves.
- Carlos Santana – 1B
- José Ramírez – 3B
- Steven Kwan – LF
- Daniel Schneemann – UT
Steven Kwan’s presence was undoubted as the left fielder
looks to win his fourth Gold Glove in as many seasons. José seems to be ever present as a finalist, but with his rocky start at the beginning of the season it was a bit of a relief to see him on the list. Carlos Santana could also get a repeat Gold Glove, having won last year for 1B. His bat may not have been the greatest while he was in Cleveland for this most recent stint, but his defense was irrefutable. It might surprise some fans that Daniel Schneemann was given the finalist nod, but I would have been surprised to not see him on the list. Schneemann’s defense and super utility was a crucial part of the Guardians success this year. It is nice to see a hardworking and dedicated player get the recognition he deserves from outside of the organization and fan base.
The complete list of finalists can be found here. There are a couple of former Guardians also nominated. Matthew Boyd (P) and Andrés Giménez (2B) were named finalists, and Ernie Clement was given a double nomination at both third base and at utility. The winners will be announced on ESPN on Sunday, November 2nd starting at 8:30PM.
Austin Hedges spoke on his signing with the club for the 2026 season. He expressed his love for the city of Cleveland and his desire to bring a ring to Cleveland.
Naturally fans expressed both their love and disdain for this signing. Its impossible to quantify the intangibles, but when a team is notorious for not wanting to spend money, the willingness to continue to give the same contract to a player like Austin Hedges speaks to those intangibles. Quincy went into further detail as to why signing a back up catcher with a .161 BA is worth it.
We here at Covering the Corner have begun our post season recap with the Guardians Season in Review series. Quincy kicked things off with Gabriel Arias and Jhonkensy Noel. There will be plenty more players covered in the coming days as we wrap up the 2025 season.
Around the League (and Beyond)
Akron native Micaela Minner may become a historic draft pick in the upcoming WPBL (Women’s Professional Baseball League) draft.
The WPBL is slated to announce the teams for the 2026 season soon, though no exact date has been given. After the cities and teams are announced the first WPBL draft will take place presumably in November.
The wrongful death civil trial between the family of Tyler Skaggs and the Los Angeles Angels organization began Tuesday.
Ending on a happier note, former Guardian Andrés Giménez hit the game-tying home run in the 3rd inning of game 3 of the ALCS. Like his teammate Myles Straw in the ALDS, this home run was the first career postseason home run for Giménez.
