It is no secret that Rutgers quarterbacks Dylan Lonergan and AJ Surace struggled mightily in their first starts for the Scarlet Knights, with neither one of them proving why they should be the starter on a Big Ten team with their play in the last two games.
In their first game of the season against UMass, Lonergan completed 16 out of 29 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions before he was knocked out of the game with an injury. With Lonergan out against Boston College, Surace
was given the starting nod for the first time. It did not go well for him either, as he completed 18 out of 27 passes for 230 yards, adding three touchdowns and four interceptions.
Both had bad performances; both threw back-breaking interceptions, but only one can start when Lonergan comes back from injury, for which he is listed as week-to-week. (He was seen at the Boston College game throwing passes pregame but did not dress) So that begs the question: who should be the starting quarterback from here on out, the guy who won the job in training camp and has more starting experience (as bad as it may be), or the guy who still has a very limited sample size of playing time and could get better as the season progresses?
