The Cleveland Browns decided to take two quarterbacks in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft – Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. At the time, most people believed the Browns needed to draft a quarterback in 2025 due to the limited veteran options available. In retrospect, should Cleveland have used those picks on the offensive line or other areas of need
, or was it important to take a swing on one or multiple quarterbacks? It’s becoming clear that neither Gabriel for sure and possibly Sanders
are not the long-term answer for the Browns at quarterback, and neither is likely to be the starter in 2026. Knowing this, Cleveland absolutely should have used at least one of those 2025 draft picks to invest in the offensive line. The offensive line’s poor play has been a major reason for the offense’s struggles this season, and it hasn’t made life any easier for the rookie quarterbacks.
Had the Browns chosen to invest in the offensive line, that would’ve helped the team prepare to support whatever quarterback they select in the first round of the 2026 draft. Creating an environment that can support a young quarterback is extremely important if the team truly wants to set them up for success. Cleveland will need to prioritize other areas of the offense if it hopes to develop its quarterback of the future.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Should the Browns have prioritized the offensive line over quarterbacks in the 2025 draft?
