As a 30-point-per-game scorer, Damian Lillard is in a better position than anyone to (light-heartedly) roast someone else for not being one. And while chatting on the Portland Trail Blazers’ broadcast with Kevin Calabro and Lamar Hurd, Damian Lillard did just that when talking about Bam Adebayo’s 83-point outburst earlier that evening:
Bam was like, ‘Man, I’m trying to average 30. And at the time I literally said to him, ‘You think you’re like a 30-point-per-game scorer like that?’ And he was like, ‘What
you mean?’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never seen you score to where you’re going to get 30 a game.’
Dame also didn’t miss the opportunity to take credit for the history-making game:
I taught Bam everything he knows, man. Bam is acting totally different right now. I don’t know what’s gotten into him… And when I was watching, I’m like, maybe he knew something I just didn’t know. I had to call [WNBA star] A’ja [Wilson] like, ‘You been training this dude?’ A’ja been working with him, because he ain’t ever scored like this in his life.
Lillard’s 71-point performance in February of 2023 is the Trail Blazers’ franchise record for points in a single game, and Dame has two seasons of scoring 30 or more points per game, both in Portland.
