The United States Men’s National Team have their final tune-up match before they head to California for the 2026 World Cup today when they take on Germany in Chicago. The USMNT are coming off a 3-2 win in their first pre-World Cup friendly against Senegal, while Germany had a 4-0 win over Finland in their home warm-up before coming to the United States.
This will be a major test for the USMNT, but it’s the barometer they may need to continue their preparations for the World Cup, which begins next
week. To advance far in the tournament, they will need to show they can beat a top 10 team, especially a team with the pedigree of Germany. In that sense, it’s different than a traditional send-off match in that it’s not a team brought in to boost the confidence of the team. The confidence will have to be generated by attempting to oust one of the best teams in the world.
The USMNT will once again play without centerback Chris Richards, who has been ruled out of this match. It’s a race against time to see if he will be ready for next week or if head coach Mauricio Pochettino would ultimately be forced to make a move. Still, it will be a day where USMNT fans get one last look at the team before the true fun begins.
