The Yankees’ progress through the offseason continues, as they have penciled in an outfielder and a pitcher and now have to survey the free agent field. Brian Cashman recently spoke to the media about
their plans for the offseason, noting their need to fill two outfield spots when Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger were both due to hit free agency, and he also touched on the discourse around the $300 million payroll threshold that the team may or may not abide by. The team, of course, did not lock themselves into an answer, but it sounds like there’s avenues that could push them on either side of that budget line which sounds about right for how many moves they still need to figure out.
It’s a relatively quiet day on the site for us, as we have two prepped pieces. Matt takes the chance to look into Zac Gallen and whether he could be a good fit for New York coming off of a down year but with high upside in the recent past. Then, Michael hands out a report card to one Mark Leiter Jr. after a highly up-and-down year that has him on the brink of being non-tendered. Speaking of, the deadline for the Yankees to decide whether they’ll be tendering contracts to their arbitration-eligible players is today, and Nick will update us on who makes the cut when that drops.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Will we see any Thanksgiving/Black Friday megadeals agreed to across the league next week?
2. What’s on your watchlist with no baseball to watch right now?
