Over the past few weeks there has been some back and forth in the land of rumour mongering over whether Liverpool’s much talked about interest in Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January
transfer window is genuine or if it’s mostly just Bournemouth looking to raise his price.
It appears, though, that we can firmly put said interest in the genuine camp—though that may not result in a move for a player. At least going by The Times’ Paul Joyce, who says Liverpool have been keeping close eyes on Semenyo but it’s not yet clear if that will turn into a January bid for the 25-year-old.
Only a few days ago it was also revealed that the player has a £65M release clause—albeit one that expires after the first ten days of the window—making it even less likely the floating of Liverpool’s name in connection with the player could be about his club trying to spark a bidding war and up his price.
Manchester City, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all also been linked to Semenyo to varying degrees this season, meaning it may come down to if the player wants to move on from his current club in January or wait for the summer, and if he does want to move on which club he wants to join.
