Oblak
Had to deal with a few nervy situations, but kept his first clean sheet of the season thanks to Alberto Moleiro pulling his shots wide and Nicolas Pépé’s freekick striking the crossbar. Pretty routine game otherwise. 6
Llorente
Finally seemed to click with Giuliano Simeone, and it was no surprise that both goals came from the right-hand side. Confidently pushed forward and served the ball on a plate for Nico Gonzalez to head home. Defensively, he had a pretty straightforward game. 8
Le Normand
Did not seem comfortable having to deal with the pacey Villarreal attackers. Got turned around a couple of times in midfield, and the best opportunities for the Yellow Submarine came by baiting the defender into challenges. Came off looking fatigued in the 77th minute. 5
Lenglet
Looked rather unimpressive, did not win a single tackle or challenge all game and conceded the dangerous freekick that nearly led to Pépé‘s equalizer. 4
Ruggeri
Part of a rather poor left flank in the first half. Pépé and Tajon Buchanan proved to be a handful, and the defender picked up a yellow card for his troubles. Did not offer much going forward either and failed to connect with Nico. 4
Giuliano Simeone
Should have walked away with much more, spurned a big chance to score that could have proven costly on another day. However, his intensity and pressure did cause the misplaced pass leading to the first goal, and he was the side’s main outlet to relieve pressure and see out the game. 7
Koke
Just a single misplaced pass, and drew key fouls in dangerous areas of the pitch. The 33-year-old looked very sharp throughout the game and led from the front. 7
Barrios
Superbly-finished goal to put the side in front within 10 minutes. Not his most expansive performance but had a confident and mature game to keep the ball moving forward. 8

Nico Gonzalez
Seemed to struggle in possession in the first half, with heavy touches and a propensity to run himself into the corner. However, cannot fault his effort with his off-ball runs creating a few opportunities. Reaped the rewards with his well-taken header to score on his debut. Went off with fatigue around the 76th minute. 7
Griezmann
First start of the season and did not have a single shot in 90 mins. Worked well with Llorente, Giuliano and Barrios, and did create a couple of chances, but overall a simplistic performance. 6
Alvarez
Sole shot from a freekick from range, but cleverly assisted the opening goal. More recognizable in this game with his sharpness and movement, did his job in the first half. Taken off at halftime as a precaution, perhaps with the Champions League game against Liverpool in mind. 7

Substitutes
Sørloth
Had just one touch in the box in 45 minutes and did nothing much of notice, apart from winning a few headers in midfield. 4
Hancko
Came on for Le Normand only to be subbed off himself within seven minutes due to an injury, sustained when Santiago Mouriño went in hard with a sliding tackle. Hancko himself a solitary tackle and a headed clearance in that time. 4
Gallagher
Brought on for Nico to see out the game. His usual hardworking self. Job done. 5
Pubill
First appearance for the club and had just over 15 minutes on the pitch. Did have a header on target from a corner and saw out the game quite comfortably. 5
Galán
Sub for a sub, brought on after Hancko went down. Had just over 10 minutes including stoppage time with limited involvement. 3
