Tom Aspinall recently posted videos to his Instagram account announcing his return to the gym, where the UFC heavyweight champion can be seen smashing the pads at full strength and suplexing the heavy bag, which he refers to as “light training.”
Not bad for a one-eyed warrior.
Aspinall is currently recovering from the finger poke of doom, which brought a premature end to his Ciryl Gane title fight at UFC 321. Depending on who you ask, the injury may have saved the bulky Brit from the jaws of championship
defeat, since he was getting “busted up” by the dirty-nailed Frenchman.
“Back to work,” Aspinall wrote. “Coming for it all.”
That includes the interim heavyweight champion, expected to be crowned when Gane fights Alex Pereira in the UFC White House co-main event on June 14. No timeline has been revealed for Aspinall’s return, but late 2026 seems plausible and could depend on the turnaround time for either Gane or Pereira.
More from the champ:
Part of me was hoping he would stay blind, grow giant eyebrows, and turn his hat into a guillotine.
Aspinall will return to combat sports under new management, a subtle form of payback to UFC CEO Dana White amid their “growing tensions.” It’s unclear how many fights Aspinall, 32, has left on his current UFC contract, but new opportunities continue to present themselves as time goes on.
