Happy Wednesday one and all.
The Arizona Cardinals have put themselves in an odd position as they are dealing with a contract dispute between them and their “starting” quarterback.
No one with the organization has come out and said that Jacoby Brissett is starting, but it was leaked
to Josh Weinfuss and later John Gambadoro and that Brissett was the starter and that they brought in Gardner Minshew to be the backup.
That has made Brissett hold-in and while he showed up to mandatory minicamp, he did as much as you and I.
That begs the question, how much should the Arizona Cardinals raise the salary (and likely the guaranteed money) of Brissett to get him into camp and working?
For me, while it is unfair to the “starter” Brissett, I think the way they went about this the offseason, you can’t pay him $20 million because you basically said he isn’t going to be the guy for the full year and definitely not after this year. I would give him a raise to about $10-12 million, guarantee it and move forward. If he can find a way to outperform that, then maybe you got a deal, but it seems like the two sides should be able to come to some understanding.
