The Athletic’s Real Madrid correspondent Mario Cortegana published a report summarising Real Madrid’s activity this winter window (it was none), and there are some tidbits worth knowing as a Liverpool FC fan.
In the section that looks ahead to Madrid’s potential summer business, it is mentioned that while Carlo Ancelotti was still Real Madrid manager, he asked for Alexis Mac Allister. While no approach was officially made, Madrid received positive feedback from the player’s camp. The player’s deal
is up in summer 2028, which makes a deal this summer quite plausible.
Two other players linked with Liverpool are also mentioned: Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit. Both were linked with moves to Madrid last summer, but Smit seems to be the favoured one of the two at the moment. AZ is reportedly asking €60 million, and has tasked Portugese super agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate on their behalf.
No surprise, the dominoes for the summer window will be dictated by the moves the biggest clubs make, Liverpool included. Should one of these midfielders be taken off the market early in the window, expect moves for the others to quickly follow.
