Florida State made a major jump into the polls this week, moving to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the AP Top 25:
With Miami at No. 5 and Florida at No. 13, it’s the first time since October 2005 that all three are ranked in the top 15 during the regular season (all three were also in the top 15 in the 2006 preseason poll).
Vegas is also recalibrating its expectations of Florida State, with FanDuel moving its win total over-under to 8.5 (-136 over, +102
under) and giving the Seminoles the sixth-best odds to win the ACC:
- Clemson: +145
- Miami: +300
- Louisville: +900
- SMU: +1000
- Georgia Tech: +1100
- Florida State: +1200
- Duke: +2700
- NC State: +4500
- Pittsburgh: +4500
- Virginia: +4500
- California: +5500
- Boston College: +6000
- Virginia Tech: +7000
- North Carolina: +10000
- Syracuse: +15000
- Stanford: +30000
For perspective, before the season, FSU was getting +400 odds to win nine or more games. Now, FanDuel gives FSU +470 odds to make the College Football Playoff.
Multiple players and coaches earned props for their performances in Saturday’s win over Alabama, including Tommy Castellanos being named a Manning Award Star of the Week and a Davey O’Brien Great 8 honoree and Luke Petitbon being named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week:
Making his first start for Florida State, Castellanos, from Waycross, Georgia, completed 9-of-14 passes for 152 yards and added a game-high 78 rushing yards on 16 attempts, with one rushing touchdown. He did not commit a turnover in the contest and became the second player to account for at least 150 passing yards and 75 rushing yards in a non-conference game against Alabama in the last 20 seasons, joining Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray in the 2018 Orange Bowl.
Castellanos scored FSU’s first touchdown of the season, a 9-yard run in the first quarter. His touchdown run came after connecting with Squirrel White for a 40-yard completion on 3rd-and-11.
As a team, FSU ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns, and Castellanos led five scoring drives against the Crimson Tide.
Petitbon, from Annapolis, Maryland, spearheaded a Florida State offensive line that did not allow a sack for the first time since September 16, 2023. Petitbon played all 63 snaps against the Crimson Tide, as did FSU’s four other starting linemen: RT Micah Pettus, RG Adrian Medley, LG Richie Leonard IV and LT Gunnar Hansen.
Florida State ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Noles snap Alabama’s 23-season streak of winning its first game. It was the first time an unranked team ran for four touchdowns in a win against Alabama since 1998, and the first time FSU ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns against a ranked opponent since 2012.Petitbon finished with an 85 percent job grade and 96 percent effort grade, accounting for seven knockdown blocks and seven blocks that led to either a touchdown or first down.
