During today’s call with the media ahead of this weekend’s WrestleDream pay-per-view, AEW President Tony Khan was asked for an update on Mick Foley and the Hurt Syndicate, and how he plans to utilize them in AEW going forward.
Here is Khan’s response, where he does his best to dance around the topic while saying almost nothing of substance.
“Well you know, they’ve both been involved in some of the great AEW events this year. We’ve seen the Hurt Syndicate and Mick Foley were both involved in Double
or Nothing, which I thought was one of the best shows of the year, and AEW All In London, one of the best shows of the year.
Mick Foley has come in with a fantastic, positive outlook in his first year in AEW, and I’m really excited to have him as part of the team outside of the ring.
And in the ring, the Hurt Syndicate have said they are for hire. So, we could see them any place, any time, for the right amount of money. And certainly, one thing they did not want to do was beat up Big Justice and The Rizzler. So, they were happy to work with Big Boom AJ, Big Justice, and The Rizzler, and turn things around.
They had kind of a precarious relationship that we saw from when they brawled at the Brawl in the Ballpark, to some of the matches where STP, [who] were bested by the Hurt Syndicate at the Brawl in the Ball park, STP tried to hire the services of the Hurt Syndicate. But you know, the Hurt Syndicate they won’t work with just anybody, but they are for hire under the right circumstances, kind of like the A-Team.
I think it’ll be interesting to see as they get involved, and I have a lot of respect for Bobby, and Shelton, and MVP. And they could come in as hired guns for potentially anybody here.
Thanks for asking.”
I guess Tony thinks the Hurt Syndicate’s current mercenary gimmick is just as cool as the A-Team. Other than that, I learned nothing when it comes to an update on their status (they haven’t wrestled in AEW since the All In pre-show in late August) or how he plans to use them going forward.
Instead, Khan answered the question by praising AEW PPVs from earlier this year and recapping Hurt Syndicate’s summer storyline with Shane Taylor Promotions and the Costco Guys. I am simultaneously rolling my eyes at his rambling while also somewhat impressed with his ability to bullshit his way around a question he doesn’t want to answer.
Did you learn anything about the Hurt Syndicate’s status and how Tony Khan plans to utilize them in AEW going forward? Are they just going to randomly show up on Collision until their contracts run out? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
