Arsenal team news: Arsenal have taken a clear swing at strengthening for the 2025-26 season, targeting both experience and future potential. The defining move was the world-record signing of forward Olivia Smith from Liverpool for around £1 million. Arsenal also added England winger Chloe Kelly, versatile full-back Taylor Hinds, and German goalkeeper Anneke Borbé in free-transfer deals, signalling their intent to challenge both domestically and in Europe.
In the injury department, Arsenal are missing key personnel ahead of this weekend’s clash. Goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger is out for the season with an ACL injury, and defender Leah Williamson is still recovering from knee surgery, though she has recently returned to grass training. Other minor knocks are affecting squad rotation, meaning manager Renée Slegers may need to shuffle either side or appearance options for the derby.
Chelsea team news: Our last WSL outing saw the Blues edge a 2-0 victory over London City Lionesses at Stamford Bridge, thanks to a sixth-minute tap-in from Ellie Carpenter and a late strike from Sam Kerr deep into stoppage time. Despite dominating much of the game, Chelsea were challenged and needed the individual brilliance of Carpenter and Kerr to seal the points.
Looking ahead, manager Sonia Bompastor has confirmed that while the squad came through that match unscathed, winger Guro Reiten is absent on parental leave and will miss the upcoming fixture — and so will Lauren James, although she’s quite close to recovery. No new injuries have been reported, offering Chelsea stability in selection and allowing with-and-turnover where required.
