Happy Monday Dawg fans, and welcome to today’s Dots.
Husky Women’s soccer secured their first Big Ten tournament championship yesterday, having already won the Big Ten regular season title a few weeks ago.
This just days after the passing of goalkeeper Mia Hamant, who succumbed to a battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.
If you were at the Husky game against Illinois two weeks ago you saw Mia there, sounding the siren.
- “UW women’s soccer wins Big Ten tournament days after Mia Hamant’s death” (Seattle Times) Coach Nicole Van Dyke: “Mia has been with us the whole time. She’s a part of everything we do. She will always be.”

Elsewhere in Husky sports, the men’s football team lost a close one on the road to a seemingly resurgent Wisconsin Badgers team, 13-10.
The Husky D was responsible for six points and had a key 4th down stop in the 1st qtr. on the Husky 6yd line. True freshmen Rylon Dillard-Allen and Zaydrius Rainey-Sale stood out. UW had more first downs, more third-down conversions, and more total yards than Wisconsin. The Huskies and Badgers had the same yds per rush and the passing game wasn’t even comparable. But Washington also had more penalties and more turnovers, to go with horrible starting field position throughout the 2nd half. Washington made more mistakes and at worse times than Wisconsin did.
When I opened twitter after the game I thought I’d gone back in time (which I do regularly, but that’s another story) to the Montana loss at home under Jimmy Lake. I scrolled through 75 versions of “FIRE JEDD FISCH NOW” before I came to a post not based on immediate post-game outrage. Sure, twitter algorithms are also responsible for this, but I think you get my point.
I noticed how well the Badgers played at Autzen two weeks ago. And I was worried about this game.
Our O Line is simply not good enough to carry out a conventional running game against a strong or even decent front seven. Is this Jimmys & Joes or Xs & Os? I don’t know. Even so, Adam Mohammed actually had a better yds-per-carry than Wisconsin’s top two runners. (4.5 vs 3.8, 3.1) But then again again.. Only twice since UC Davis has a Husky RB carried for more than 57 yards.
- “Huskies loss shows their ceiling isn’t as high as fans hoped” Mike Vorel, Seattle Times — Vorel says: “Great teams win winnable games… These Huskies are good, not great.”
- “What we know about injuries of UW stars Jonah Coleman, Denzel Boston” Andy Yamashita, Seattle Times
Go Dawgs!!
