Newcastle United are not guaranteed to sell midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer despite ongoing speculation about his potential exit from Tyneside.
“Sandro Tonali’s hopes of securing a move out of Newcastle United this summer will be heavily influenced by… Elliot Anderson,” the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reported on May 21.
Interest from other clubs may depend on movement elsewhere in the market, and the most-interested clubs in acquiring Tonali might instead prefer to complete a transfer for a former
Magpie instead of the Italy international.
“There is a feeling… that Anderson is ahead of Tonali on the wish list of both Manchester City and Manchester United,” Hope writes. “Sources have told Confidential… that Tonali leaving Newcastle is far from guaranteed.”
One key factor is the financial side of any potential deal, as it’s obvious Newcastle won’t just gift their maestro away and would try to recoup, if not profit, as much money as possible in a potential sale.
“The question asked… is whether any club would be willing to pay upwards of £80million for Tonali and offer a significant increase on his salary,” Hope writes. “With a contract until 2030, Newcastle hold all the cards when it comes to negotiations with a would-be buyer.”
According to Hope, internal signs from within the club suggest that Tonali could very well remain in tow for next season at the very least.
“We can reveal that Tonali was part of the photo shoot for Newcastle’s new… kit ahead of next season,” Hope writes. “It is also said that Tonali has been super professional and not a moment’s trouble for staff or team-mates.”
For now, any potential move remains dependent on both market conditions and Newcastle’s valuation being met, whether Tonali—and most likely, his agent—likes ir or not.
