Rutgers began the Big Ten schedule with two wins against Michigan State. Since then, the Scarlet Knights have struggled in conference play and just lost their third straight series in Big Ten play. Rutgers split the first two games before losing the series on Sunday against Indiana in Bloomington.
Game One
The action kicked off on Friday from Bart Kaufman Field but Rutgers did not show up until the next day.
After a scoreless tie into the bottom of the third, Indiana took a 2-0 lead that ballooned to 6-0 in the third.
Rutgers fell 11-0 in a seven inning game to kick off the series. The Scarlet Knights mustered just three hits with two coming from Peyton Bonds.
Indiana got to Zack Konstantinovsky in the fourth inning. He got through four allowing eight hits and six runs.
Game Two
Rutgers entered the second game needing to eliminate any thought of Friday night.
It did not happen at first as the Scarlet Knights fell behind 5-1 in the fifth inning. Rutgers rallied for six runs over the final two innings to secure a 9-6 win to even the series.
Rutger powered its way to nine runs and it was led by Yomar Carreras. He finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI.
Charlie Meglio homered in the eighth inning before Carreras hit a two-run double to give Rutgers a 6-5 lead. He would put the finishing touches on the win with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Chris Sand earned the win on the mound after settling things down in the sixth inning. He went 2 1/3 innings allowing no runs on one hit and striking out three.
Game Three
Rutgers had a chance to steal the series on Sunday but the bats were cold again.
The Scarlet Knights fell into a hold once again and could not climb out during an 8-2 defeat before returning home.
Rutgers fell behind 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carreras and Matt Chatelle drove in runs in the top of the seventh but that would be it.
Rutgers will be back in action on Tuesday against in-state rival Seton Hall before UCLA comes to town over the weekend for a three-game set.
