Pooling media rights looming closer?
A few discussions about the future of college football took place last week, and though we are a long way off from any substantial changes, there was one tangible outcome. Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Eric Schmitt
(R-MO) released a draft called the College Sports Competitive Act, which would amend the Sports Broadcasting Act and allow conferences to pool their media rights for larger packages. This would be the first major hurdle towards change, so it’s notable that it has bipartisan support this early.
Aggies capture regular-season championship.
Utah State had to close out their season with a tough game against New Mexico, but came away victorious. Playing at home, they used a balanced scoring attack and got to the free-throw line to build an early lead. The Lobos kept hanging around, and actually led 43-42 at halftime. But the Aggies started the second half on fire, thanks to a 12-2 run and led by MJ Collins and Drake Allen. When the smoke settled, they came away with a four-point victory and a Mountain West regular-season championship.
Hawaii accomplished their goals this spring.
Hawaii wrapped up spring practices this weekend and Coach Chang said the team took care of business and reached their goals. They were able to develop the quarterbacks behind Alejado since he missed spring recovering from an injury. as well as finding talent on the defensive line. The Rainbow Warriors also put some players and coaches in new situations, with assistant coaches calling plays on both sides of the ball and some players sitting out with injuries became player-coaches.
