Newcastle United’s summer rebuild has finally delivered a major attacking addition after weeks dominated by high-profile departures and transfer uncertainty.
The club announced the signing of Ivorian winger Bazoumana Toure from TSG Hoffenheim on a long-term contract on Sunday.
Newcastle did not disclose the fee, though previous reports placed the agreement with Hoffenheim at around €50 million.
Toure, 20, becomes Newcastle’s second senior
arrival of the summer after French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen officially joined the club this week.
“I’m very, very happy to be here,” Toure said. “It was my dream since I was young to play in the Premier League for a big team like Newcastle.”
The winger featured three times for Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup as his country reached the knockout stage.
“Newcastle is like a family, which will help me show my best on the pitch,” Toure said. “I will give my best every single day for this shirt.”
Eddie Howe described Toure as a player with “a really high ceiling” and said Newcastle believes he can offer something different.
Sporting director Ross Wilson called Toure “young, ambitious, and hungry to develop.”
Toure began his career with ASEC Mimosas before moving to Hammarby and then Hoffenheim, where he had five goals and nine assists last season. The young lad is expected to replace Anthony Gordon on the wing outright.
