Middleweight prospect George Liddard passed a meaningful test today at London’s York Hall, stopping Kieron Conway to win the British and Commonwealth titles in a DAZN main event.
Liddard (13-0, 8 KO) was in control of the entire fight, and the 23-year-old looked like a sincere potential world-level fighter, as Conway (23-4-1, 7 KO) wasn’t able to get much going his way at all, and Conway’s a solid fighter and has been in good form.
At the very least, Liddard showed that he’s a class above the domestic
level in the United Kingdom, and can turn his sights to making waves on the international scene in the next few years.
Liddard scored a knockdown in the ninth round, after Conway had arguably his best round in the eighth, during which he seemed to suffer a notable injury to his left hand. Conway tried to fight through it, but it was a clear hindrance, and in trying to over-compensate with his right hand, Conway appeared to have maybe tweaked that shoulder.
Conway’s corner threw the towel in the 10th round, after it was obvious he just wasn’t able to hold Liddard off any longer, and that no good could come of leaving their fighter in the ring.
It was a really encouraging performance and passed gate for Liddard, who may be on his way to much bigger stages in London and around the world.
