Bayern Munich’s Frauen-Bundesliga season continues today with a trip to face 1. FC Köln.
It has been a brilliant season for the Bavarians domestically so far — 14 points atop the league (VfL Wolfsburg has a match in hand) and through to the DFB-Pokal semifinals. But Bayern is facing a spate of absences and this week will be about getting through it before the heat turns up — especially in the Women’s Champions League, which resumes on March 25th with a trip to face Manchester United.
Jovana Damnjanović,
Klara Bühl, Katharina Naschenweng, Momoko Tanikawa, and Alara are all unavailable for head coach José Barcala, in addition to long-term absences Lena Oberdorf and Sarah Zadrazil.
“Köln will definitely challenge us. All the stats show Köln are one of the teams that press in the best and most intense way,” Barcala said in his match preview, as captured by FCBayern.com. “So we’ve prepared for various scenarios of how we face them or what we can expect from them.
“But it’s more about playing our game and finding ways to control the game. We want to work our way into the final third and create good chances. And finally, it’s about being clinical in front of goal and taking our chances.”
Prediction: Bayern wins, 3-1.
It’s Bayern time.
