UFC middleweight Torrez Finney is likely sidelined for the rest of 2026 after revealing that he suffered a torn ACL in his recent fight against Jacob Malkoun at UFC 325 in Australia.
The two-time Contender
Series veteran posted a photo from his hospital bed along with a video that showed a moment during his fight when he took a misstep and immediately came away limping. Finney says the injury actually occurred just seconds into the opening round, but he still managed to survive to the final horn before losing a unanimous decision.
“Stumbling blocks are a part of every journey,” Finney wrote on Instagram. “Thank God he’s built me to overcome every one I’ve faced and that will be the story once again. Got the MRI yesterday and doc told me I tore my ACL and both of my meniscus within my knee. Got me into surgery the next day. He said it’s insane I was able to fight with that tearing 15 seconds into the fight.
“I will say I was in some uncharted waters not being able to do what I can skillset wise based on injury not opponent. Can’t wait to showcase all the things I’ve have gotten so much better at within my skillset to the world but now we focus on recovery and growth.”
Finney fell to 1-1 in the UFC with the loss to Malkoun.
Prior to his most recent appearance, Finney scored a split decision win his octagon debut while landing just four significant strikes across three rounds. He won the fight largely based around his wrestling with eight takedowns and over 13 minutes of control time.
In his loss to Malkoun in January, Finney only made one takedown attempt, which was likely due to the knee injury he suffered in the fight.
The typical recovery time for a torn ACL is between 9 to 12 months, which means Finney is likely looking at an early 2027 return to action.
