Happy Thursday, Camden Chatters! Spring training is rolling on and yesterday was Kyle Bradish’s time to shine. Bradish made the start against the Pirates and went five strong innings. He threw 73 pitches and allowed just one hit and one walk. He topped 97 mph several time. After Bradish, Chris Bassitt came in and finished out the game. Bassitt wasn’t as sharp. He walked three and gave up two runs on a ninth-inning home run.
The Orioles won the game, 7-2. Through four innings, they had just two baserunners
on a single by Adley Rutschman and a walk by Pete Alonso. They broke through in the fifth on Taylor Ward’s three-run homer. The dinger scored Weston Wilson and José Barrero. Later, Barrero hit a three-run homer of his own.
The Orioles are off today. Tomorrow, they’ll be on the road against the Phillies.
The first round of the World Baseball Classic finished last night. Canada punched its ticket to the quarterfinals with a win over Cuba. They join Puerto Rico as the advancing teams from Pool A. After the drama by Team USA on Tuesday, they advanced anyway when Italy walloped Mexico to finish Pool B undefeated.
USA and Italy will be joined by Puerto Rico and Canada in Houston for the quarterfinal. USA will face Canada on Friday, with Italy and Puerto Rico playing each other on Saturday. The winners will travel to Miami for the semifinals and final.
Japan and Korea advanced out of Pool C in Tokyo, and they travel to Miami to face the winners of Pool D. Korea will face the Dominican Republic, and Japan will face Venezuela.
Dean Kremer and Enrique Bradfield returned to spring training camp yesterday. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for Gunnar Henderson and Tyler O’Neill.
