Manchester City could move into fifth place in the league with victory on Sunday afternoon when they face Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium. The Blues are currently 8th, six points behind leaders
Arsenal, but with Liverpool crashing to defeat at Chelsea, the match gives the Blues a perfect opportunity to close the gap.
But Brentford will be looking for a Manchester double when City arrive, having dispatched United 3-1 last weekend and a win for the West London side will move them away from the relegation zone and put them level on points with the Blues.
It is likely to be an open match with two attack-minded teams and hopefully, the Blues will prevail. As always, our team are here to give us their views and predictions on the game. Here’s what we think this week.
Saul
Tricky matchup on Sunday. Brentford away is one of those for City, though their keeper is gone. Give me a narrow win. 2-1 City.
Brentford 1-2 City
Thomas
The Bees have won 2 from 6 in the Prem, but they would remind you that both wins have come at the GTech. City head to west London in search of a bounce-back performance after a disappointing midweek draw with Monaco. City should be able to handle Brentford in their post-Frank era. A brace for the world’s most dangerous man, and a clean sheet for Gianluigi.
Brentford 0-3 City
Will
Brentford away is always an eyesore. Let’s go for a gritty City win. Goalscorers? Phil Foden (it’s Brentford away, so of course) and Erling Haaland (it’s Erling Haaland, so of course!)
Brentford 1-2 Manchester City
Pete
I hate Brentford away. It still brings back memories of that 1989 FA Cup tie that we should have won and lost 3-1 (yes, I should let it go). If this side were a Thomas Frank side, I’d be more concerned, but the Bees seem to have taken a little step back since his departure and I think City will take advantage of their transitional period.
Brentford 1-3 City
What happened against Monaco
We all went for a win in Monaco, and we were minutes away from achieving this when we were robbed by a late penalty. But the real tragedy in this story is that Pete was robbed of his first correct prediction since the year dot. His 2-1 prediction was spot on until the spot destroyed it. How ironic.
Saul and Thomas get extra points though for the correct number of goals. Will went for 3-0 and will also be cursing that late Dier penalty as he could have got the extra points instead.
Here’s the table:
